Inspiring Short Story

Potatoes, eggs, and coffee beans

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?”

“Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she hastily replied.

“Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

“Which are you,” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “

Moral:
In the life of a human being will always get the trials from the creator. Sometimes we feel tremendous pain or tired with all that we are dealing with. Sometimes it feels like we want to shut ourselves from the world around us to heal wounds slowly. The fact is we cannot shut ourselves away, we still have to continue to deal with the Affairs of the living. Trials is boiling water, and we humans as a potato, egg and coffee bean. We face a problem of boiling water. In dealing with these issues should we be patient, lots of worship, as well as closer on That power. We as humans should accept any fate and events that exist in our lives because it is set up by God and that's what's best for us. Although we do not feel right now, its benefits will be felt later, if we continue to be patient and braced ourselves. When the hardship ended as the boiling water when the fire is off, we could have changed. Like potatoes that had been hard can be tender and soft, flaccid eggs can be hard-boiled, and coffee bean to taste good. We will also be changed after the trials ended and the change that's what God wants so that we can face a variety of targets that await in the future. So trust in Him because He is the best of planner.

TURBUD 2014

On March 3-April 7, me and friends 32015 went to Bali for "TUR BUDAYA". It is an unusual case because it felt like a vacation with 300 other people gave a different impression.
The first day is April 3, 2014, we all gathered in the North of Bandung station at 17.30. We were praying Maghrib and then the train departed at 20.00 using Turangga . Originally an uncomfortable train atmosphere but gradually turned into a comfortable when the PIRATES gathered. We played cards, sing, take pictures, and told many stories. But there's also an intimidating experience while on the train because there is "something". We also continue to proceed to Surabaya until about 8 am.

The second day is April 4, 2014, we went on a trip using the bus. One bus for one class. At about 11.00 we stopped at a restaurant to eat and so that the brethren may be praying Friday prayer as well as the akhwat praying Zuhr. We then went back went on a trip and then stopped again in restaurant at 6 pm for dinner and the Maghrib. At approximately 19:45 we got to port Katapang, Banyuwangi. We were crossing the Bali Strait about an hour more and reached the port of Gilimanuk, Bali: at 22: 00 WITA. We went on a trip to the hotel until around 1 am in the morning. Arrived at the hotel we headed to our rooms, take care of equipment, and was soon asleep.
The third day is April 5, 2014, we got our morning call at around 05.00 in the morning. We got up, got ready, and go to breakfast together. After everything is done, we boarded a bus heading to Tanjung Benoa for playing watersport. Watersport that I choose is parasailing, banana boat and jetski. When riding parasailing initially fear but after being in the top turned out to be engrossing. So also with the jetski. After all is done playing, we showered, changed clothes, and lunch together in Tanjung Benoa.
We continued the journey to Puja Mandala and to pray Zuhr for a Muslim. Afterwards, we immediately to Garuda Wisnu Kencana. At the GWK held games  searched for items with the clue in blue and yellow. We also take a photos there.

At the GWK also we watched the kecak dance performances for about an hour. Once completed we proceed to Jimbaran for dinner and games 2 which is "Sing a Song". Game "Sing a Song" is quite fun because we sang along with contemporaries and can become an entirely different person like in school. At 21.30 we went back to the buses and returned to the hotel for rest.
The fourth day is April 6, 2014, as usual there is a morning call at 05.00 in the morning and had breakfast together. The first destination was Desa Adar Penglipuran to see the lives of the citizens there. They were preparing for Minister who was about to came so they seemed to be busy.

From Desa Adat Penglipuran to Puncak Batur Kintamani for lunch and praying Zuhr. The landscape was beautiful and the weather was cool. Once comfortable in there but we should immediately went to Sukowati. We were given time 40 minutes to found a gift shop that we want. After that, we immediately headed to the hotel to prepared for a "Makrab" themed 32015 award. We wore beachy outfit that we had. The event lasted for about 4 hours. When Makrab there are awards to the nomination of the category specified. The PIRATES got 6 awards from 20 awards. I.e. 2 by Sobari, 1 by Febby, 1 by Shasa, 1 by Rizkania, and 1 by Syifaulqulub. At Makrab there are show from the KV3, T'ST, MK3, Akep, Monochromatic, and ZHAGAM. Zhagam band was consist of Zharfan, Hanifa, Anjani, Ghalib, Alza, and Mutia entitled rendition of the their creations as they win in the song contest. Makrab ended with watched videos that makes us remember that we've been together almost 2 years. It was sad but there is still 1 more years later.

Makrab event finished at around midnight. We went to rest.
The fifth day is April 7, 2014, we got our morning call at 05.15 and had breakfast together again. Our first destination was Pandawa beach. Beautiful beach and relatively clean. On the beach I was canoeing with friends. Although the clothes being wet but i felt happy. Our second destinatiom was Krisna Bali. We're there to shop according to our wishes and immediately went on a trip to the airport to returned home. We had lunch on the bus while headed to the airport. Arrived at the airport we immediately check-in and others. About 15.25 we take off from Ngurah Rai of Bali
Sadly it seems Turbud was finished. At about 4.30 pm we were landed at the Husein Sastranegara airport Bandung. After took our items we went home.
